Couple gets married, one partner catches the other doing something they do not approve of, couple separates. This is news? So is it just the symmetry of it? The fact that the “act” in question has to do with how the couple met in the first place? I don't think so. If you imagine some other factor in place of Second Life, the story is completely commonplace. I think it's a story only because it relates to internets, and it's news for those that don't live with the internets everyday. That's the bit that is of cultural interest.
